Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has set up a committee under the Rawalpindi district coordination officer (DCO) to check quackery in the district.
The committee will arrest all those medical practitioners who do not have a government-recognised degree or licence and will send the challans to the commission.
The committee, headed by the DCO, will comprise executive district officer (EDO) heath and officials of health and police departments.
The committee will also check qualifications of allopathy, homeopathy and ‘Tibb’ practitioners.
There are around 500 unqualified practitioners operating in the city.
The initiative came after the district health department failed to check the illegal practice.
EDO (Health) Dr Nasir Mehmood, while talking to Daily Express highlighted the need for raising public awareness of dangers quacks pose to public health.
