Ied blast: Tribal elder killed in Bajaur Agency

Officials of the political administration reached the scene and a search operation began in the area

A tribal elder was killed in an improvised explosive devices (IED) blast in Bajaur Agency on Thursday morning.



An official of the political administration told The Express Tribune Rahim Gul was travelling in Chamarkand area of Nawagai subdivision when a device planted near a roadside went off, killing him on the spot.


“Officials of the political administration reached the scene and a search operation began in the area,” he said. “No arrests have been made so far.” However, Jamaatul Ahrar has claimed responsibility for the attack.


Last week, two tribal leaders and a minor were killed while two others were injured in an IED blast in Utmankhel tehsil, Bajaur Agency. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. On August 23, two people, including a tehsil president of the Pakistan Peoples Party, were killed and three security officials were injured in separate acts of terror in Zari Mamond and Sapari Mamond tehsils of Bajaur Agency.
