PESHAWAR:

Tribespeople from Khyber Agency took to the streets on Wednesday to demand the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Bara President Abid Afridi.

A large number of protesters gathered outside Peshawar Press Club. The demonstration was led by Iqbal Afridi, a PTI leader from Bara.

Speakers at the protest said Abid was arrested from Saddar over two weeks ago. However, he has yet to be produced before a court.

“Abid is a law-abiding citizen,” one of the speakers said. “If he has committed a crime, the charges against him should be proved in court.”

Another speaker said if the PTI Bara president is not produced before a court, tribespeople will be compelled to hold hunger strikes and a series of demonstrations outside the Peshawar High Court.

Last week, PTI leaders from Khyber Agency had asked the government to release Abid within 24 hours.
