QUETTA:

Three people, including a police official and a Levies’ man, were killed on Tuesday in separate incidents of violence across the restive Balochistan province.

The first incident took place in the provincial capital of Quetta, where a policeman was gunned down in the city’s Hazar Ganji area.

“An ASI, Ali Nawaz, was on his way to Shalkot police station, when unknown armed men intercepted his motorcycle and opened fire on him,” said SHO Ashiq Khattak, adding that the police official died on the spot.

“The Frontier Corps (FC) and police later carried out a search operation in the area and arrested 10 suspected militants,” the SHO said, adding that no group claimed responsibility for the killing till filing of the report.

Elsewhere, in the province’s southern Jhal Magsi district an armed clash between two rival groups of a tribe left at least two men dead and a third injured. One of the dead was a Balochistan Levies operative.

According to Jhal Magsi’s District Police Officer Abdul Latif Baloch, two groups of Lashari tribe clashed in the Ghandawa area of the district because of an old enmity.

“As a result of the clash, Levies official Mohammad Younas and one Hazur Baksh were killed,” he said.
