Crackdown: 12 detained in Bahawalpur search operation, says police

Police claimed to have detained 12 suspects in a search operation in Bahawalpur on Sunday.


A police spokesman said Hasilpur and Channi Goth police had also seized 14 bottles of imported liquor, 160 litres of locally-brewed liquor, 700 grams of cannabis, 200 grams opium and a pistol.

The spokesman said hostels and hotels were searched at One Unit Chowk and Rafi Qamar Road by Kotwali, Civil Lines, Cantt and Baghdadul Jadeed police.

He said at Khanqah Sharif, a search operation was conducted by Saddar, Samma Satta, Abbasnagar and Musafirkhana police teams.

In Yazman, a search operation was conducted in Kandaywala Bridge area in Chak 101/DNB by Saddar Yazman police.

In Ahmadpur East, a search operation was conducted in Ghanwali, Jhallanwali and Tahirwali by Ahmadpur Saddar East, Dera Nawab, Naushera Jadeed, Dhoorkot, and Uch Sharif police teams.

In Channi Ghot, police seized a pistol from Muhammad Ehsan, a resident of Jhallanwali village, and registered a case against him.

Hasilpur police conducted a search operation in the informal settlement near Rangeela Shah Shrine.

During a search operation in Christian Colony, Malanwala Chowk and Muhammadia Colony 14 bottles of imported liquor and 160 litres of locally brewed-liquor were seized. Cases were registered against Rizwan Masih, Saleem, Shahbaz Masih and Muhammad Tahir Iqbal.

In another raid, Hasilpur police seized 700 grams cannabis and 200 grams opium from Ramazan and Basheer Ahmad and registered cases against them.

In Khairpur, a search operation was carried out by Tamewali and Enayati police teams. A police spokesman said pickets had been set up across the city and patrol teams had been put on high alert.

He said the Counter Terrorism Department and intelligence agencies were also participating in the crackdown.  He said the search operation had been launched as part of the National Action Plan.
