For justice: Farmers demand action against officials

HYDERABAD: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) has called for charging the allegedly corrupt irrigation officials under the Anti-Terrorism Act for the massive losses suffered by the farmers due to the prevailing flood situation. The SCA claimed that the water level in the river was between 800,000 to 900,000 cusecs but the irrigation officials told the people that it was around 600,000 cusecs. The farmers’ body also claimed that the telemetry system worth Rs450 million was installed at several points in the Indus river after the 2010 floods but the faulty system did not given proper readings. The SCA supported the ongoing farmers’ protests in Punjab and urged the provincial government to accept their demands.
