Pakistani student wins second prize at NASA contest

A Pakistani boy secured second prize at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2015.

Shah Mir Aizaz, a student of O’ Levels, participated in the annual design competition for students from grade 7 to grade 12, sponsored by the NASA Ames Research Center and the National Space Society NSS. He won second prize for his design titled, ‘Beyond Infinity - Eros Outer Atmosphere Settlement’.

Every year, individuals, small teams of two to five, and large teams of six or more are invited from all over the world to submit space settlement designs to NASA Ames for judgement. The contest has been taking place since 1994. This year there were 994 submissions from 3,007 students taught by 380 teachers. Entries came from 21 nations worldwide and 14 different states from USA.

Don't they?? might be right but that's not the point is it?? When the article is about a specific person you let them be proud. Stayameva Jayate | 9 years ago | Reply Shah Mir Aizaz HAS NOT "bagged the second place in the competition". Actually, the contest does not rank all contestants as a whole. Actually winners are chosen separately for each of the SIX standard levels between 7th and 12th standards. There are 25 1st Prize Winners and 29 2nd Prize Winners chosen for the 2015 contest. Mr. Shah Mir won the 2nd Prize for the Grade 10. TWO (2) Pakistani contestants were included among the winners and Honorable Mentions. And, it must be noted that India has EIGHTY TWO (82) such contestants who were among the winners and Honorable Mentions. Having focussed on nuclear development all these years Pakistan should now also consider diverting some resources to space research. It needs to move on to making more advanced satellites as well as its own launch facility.

Infact India won the first prize in the same grade with a project titled Atlas submitted by Devam K., Tinsukia, Assam, India (Shiksha The Gurukul), Individual category. Infact India won as many as 14 first prizes from Grade 12 to Grade 7 under small team , big team and Individual category. Just for info and not for chest thumping.
