KARACHI:

At least five alleged gangsters, including a key militant commander, were killed on Friday in an exchange of fire with law enforcers conducting a targeted operation in the troubled parts of Lyari.

The deceased include a crime ringleader, Sadiq Gadani, who is said to be a close aide of notorious gangster, Baba Ladla.

The encounter took place in Ghulam Shah Lane where the law enforcers and gangsters came face to face. The police and Rangers were conducting a joint operation in the area that has long been a haven for criminals.

In the exchange of fire, four policemen, including a former SHO, and a passer-by were wounded. They were initially rushed to nearby public health facility, but were later shifted to a private hospital due to the critical nature of their injuries.

According to the law enforcers, Gadani was allegedly involved in at least 50 killings, including those of police personnel. He had reportedly been involved in the gang war, holding ties with the Rehman Dakait group that later turned into Uzair Baloch group.
