According to SP Asghar Usman, residents alerted the police after they became suspicious of the vehicle that had been parked on a street in the neighbourhood for the past 15 days or more.
After weeks of assuming that the car belonged to a guest staying in the area, residents became suspicious and called the police, who brought in a bomb disposal unit to ensure that there were no explosives, before discovering the 24 boxes containing bullets. Rangers also arrived on the scene.
SP Usman said the car had a fake number plate and that investigators were going to use the vehicle’s chassis number and engine number to trace the owner.
Police suspect the culprits abandoned the car out of fear of being caught by law enforcement personnel.
