Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has criticised K-Electric (KE) for the sudden and harsh increase of 30 per cent in its tariff.
In a statement, on Wednesday, the JI Amir lambasted KE and said that the entity has continuously been violating the agreement of its privatisation. He said that it was agreed under the privatisation accord that new power plants would be set up, more investment would be made and uninterrupted electricity would be provided to the citizens. He added that instead of following the terms and conditions of the agreement, KE only focused on generating revenue.

Rehman said that a majority of Karachi’s citizens are adversely affected by load-shedding, overbilling and other tactics imposed by the utility provider. He demanded that KE withdraw the increase in the tariff.
