Nearly two dozen people protested against the Irrigation Department in front of the DPO’s office, demanding that canal be closed temporarily to allow recovery of a body.
Muhammad Habib said his son Tahir and his three friends were travelling on Shashmahi Canal’s bridge when a tyre of the car burst. He said it fell in the canal. He said Rescue 1122 had rescued his friends but had not been able to find his son. He said he had requested the Irrigation Department to suspend the water flow so that the body could recovered. Later, a representative of the DPO met them and assured them that the matter would be taken up with the Irrigation Department.
