PESHAWAR:

The counter-terrorism department (CTD) arrested a militant from Badhaber on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

According to a handout issued by the department, Amal Gul, a resident of Bara in Khyber Agency, was taken into custody during a raid.

“Amal is a member of a banned militant outfit,” read the statement. “He was involved in a 2007 attack on peace committee members in Badhaber which left Samar Gul and Malik Jan dead and several others injured.”

Amal was arrested and shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.

Earlier this month, CTD arrested two militants from separate parts of the city.

On August 7, a special police unit of the department arrested a militant who has been on the run since 2009. He was identified as Muhammad Karim, a resident of Khyber Agency, who was wanted by police for his involvement in a bomb attack in Tajabad in 2009. Another militant was arrested during a raid in Mattani.
