According to eyewitnesses, the explosion took place at the school’s football ground where the opening match of a football tournament was expected to be held. No casualties were reported.
Chairman for Khyber Sports Committee Mirajuddin told The Express Tribune a football tournament to commemorate Independence Day was expected to take place at the school’s premises.
The opening ceremony for the tournament was held a day earlier and the tournament was initiated by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq.
According to Mirajuddin, a large number of spectators had gathered at the school. However, the football match did not take place due to heavy rain.
“Fortunately, the IED detonated, when all players and spectators had left the premises,” he added.
