India proposes to send 26/11 commission to Pakistan: Reports

New Delhi tells Islamabad it wants to get voice samples of six other suspects, including Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

NEW DELHI: India has conveyed to Pakistan that it wants to send a commission to Islamabad to question Mumbai attacks suspects, including Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai which claimed 166 lives.

According to the Press Trust of India, New Delhi has told Islamabad that it wants to send a commission to get voice samples of six other suspects in addition to Lakhvi, including Zarrar Shah and Abu al Qama.

The accused were arrested by Pakistani authorities in November 2009.

The report added that Indian home secretary, G.K. Pillai, reiterated his earlier claims that Pakistan’s efforts to persecute those behind the Mumbai attacks were a “façade”.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh this week also said that friendly ties with Pakistan can only come when Islamabad ensures its soil is not used for “terrorist” activities against Indian targets.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office has assured that Pakistan and India are working quietly to iron out their differences on issues that have so far prevented the resumption of stalled peace process between the nuclear armed-neighbours.

vasan | 13 years ago | Reply We cry for the 166 persons who died in the Mumbai atttack by Pakistanis because we value human life. We dont indoctrinate people by stupid religious ideas and use then as cannon fodder(suicide bombers) like Pakistan army does thru all these proxy terror groups.

I ask the indian authorities that their security agencies were sleeping when few people crossed the border through sea on boat.. this is just a game plan envisaged by indian spy agencies to create a bad impage of Pakistan. Pakistan hasnt voiced so much despite that hundreds of attacks were made against the state in last couple of years. india is weeping for their 166 people, what about 30,000 + people of Pakistan who have been killed in the so called war against terror

Anoop | 13 years ago | Reply I dont see any harm for India. But, just imagine Lakhvi is not happy being a scapegoat for ISI/Army and Hafiz Saeed for Mumbai attacks. There is a possibility that he could tell about their involvement which would really nail Pakistan. It'll be interesting to see how Pakistan reacts to this. It will obviously ask for access to Samjhota blast folks, forgetting that they are in jail because India voluntarily put them in, without waiting for Pakistan to come up with proof. India should be ready. After all what has it to hide. On the other hand Pakistan has everything to hide.

Cautious | 13 years ago | Reply I suspect they will be burning the midnight oil in Islamabad to try and come up with a reason to deny this request - if they do it will just enhance Pakistan's image of a corrupt country which uses terrorist to further it's foreign policy objectives.

The Only Normal Person Here. | 13 years ago | Reply Pakistan tried hard to convince India for this commission "thing" when mumbai attacks happened and continued doing so from time to time. But India behaved like a peevish child. I wonder what changed its mind now... or may be I dont.
