KARACHI: “The undeniable love I feel for my country and the urge to express it is what inspires me,” said 30-year-old Madiha Saail when asked about her design philosophy. “Like all other forms of art, my designs stem from the heart, and a lot of spirit goes into making our pieces. Being patriotic, of course, plays a great role in their design and development.”

As creative director of Project Rich, a jewellery house operating out of Lahore, Madiha’s main aspiration is to enhance the global image of Pakistan through her designs.  “We launched our first ‘Azaadi Line’ last year and realised that people really like things that make a bold statement,” shared Madiha. The collection features six products, including jhanndi rings, earrings and cufflinks. According to Madiha, the most popular item is ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’, a heart-shaped pendant with Urdu calligraphy.

This year, Madiha and her team have extended their product portfolio, adding three completely new designs to the mix. The 2015 ‘Azaadi Collection’  was launched via social media last Saturday and offers a variety of items, such as jhandiyan studs and gold-plated knuckle rings and pendants reading dates and words, such as ‘1947’ and ‘Pakistan.’ “I have already short-listed my pieces for next year and am super excited to launch them as well,” said Madiha of her plans to diversify.

Regardless of what one purchases, each item manages to stir a sense of patriotism when worn and that is precisely what has kept Madiha going till now. “The response we receive is always overwhelming. Our customers not only display patriotism and enthusiasm in buying our pieces but also wear, flaunt and share them with others,” claimed Madiha. “This applies to both our local and expat clientele. We have been providing luxury products and want the middle-class to buy and enjoy them as well.”
