QUETTA: An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta gave Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) Balochistan President Shahzain Bugti a seven-day remand on Thursday.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Bugti said he had been trapped in this case saying that he will face all cases levelled against him and his companions.

Bugti was arrested by Frontier Corps (FC) officials on Wednesday at the Balili Checkpost near Chaman.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also seized from him and his men, after which he was handed over to the police on the orders of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

Bugti said that if he and his companions were really carrying so many weapons the police would not have been able to stop them.

Investigation underway

A seven member team has been constituted to investigate Bugti's case. DIG Wazir Khan Nasar will head the joint investigation team comprising representatives of ISI, Itelligence Bureau,CID, Frontier Corps, FIA and Crimes Branch. The team will submit its report within seven days.

A spokesman for Capital City Police Quetta has said the weapons which were recovered included RPG-7, Anti-Tank and Antiaircraft guns. He said every possible step would be taken to clear Quetta of illegal weapons.
