But it was not enough to spare him the wrath of parents and protesters with a shoe being thrown at the officer as he left after press conference.
IGP Mushtaq Sukhera visited Hussain Khan Wala village on Tuesday to take stock of the situation. He held a press conference at Government Girl’s High School to address the concerns of villagers.
Villagers who had gathered outside the school, protested police inaction against the culprits and demanded strict action.
In his press conference, Sukhera defended his force, claiming that since even the “families of the sexually assaulted children did not know about the abuse nor did they complain to the police even several years after the incident took place, how could the police have known about it?"
"Now that the matter is in police's knowledge, a transparent inquiry is being conducted and those found responsible will be shown no leniency."
Sukhera announced that the SHO Mehr Akmal, had been removed from his post after charges were leveled of abetting members of the pornography ring by sharing information about complainants against them.
He said that if the SHO fails to prove his innocence, he would also be taken to task.
On the demand of the villagers, the IGP also announced that the DPO Kasur had also been removed from his post.
Despite the Sukhera conceding some of the villager’s demands, he was not spared their ire and as he left the school building, a shoe was hurled at him.
The shoe, however, missed its mark and hit another policeman. A scuffle ensued between officers and angry villagers as the IGP sought to escape.
Further, four high-ranking police officials, including Kasur's DPO, were suspended on Tuesday evening, Express News reported.
