Professor gunned down in Quetta

QUETTA: Gunmen on Tuesday shot dead a woman university professor in Quetta, where targeted killings blamed on tribal insurgents, sectarian groups and militants are increasing, police said.

Nazima Talib, 48, had just stepped into a rickshaw at the gate of Balochistan University in Quetta city when gunmen riding a motorbike sprayed her with bullets, senior police officer Tariq Manzoor said.

"She received multiple bullet wounds and died before she could be taken to hospital," Manzoor told AFP. "It was a targeted killing," he said.

Talib came from Punjab that regional insurgents in Balochistan accuse of siphoning off their resources and denying them independence, police said. She was a senior teacher in the mass communications department.

Whatever we talk and share here, we can not forget that Balochistan is burning because of the vested interests of undemocratic rulers who have ruled Pakistan. On the other hand, present government is so much engrossed in its matters that it cannot find time to look at the grave issues of burning Baluchistan. Time is running out. Bring real democracy in Pakistan and save Baluchistan.

Dr.Anwaar Ahmad. | 14 years ago | Reply I taught in G.C.Quetta in May 71 and soft spoken slain professor Fazal Bari was my noble colleague.My daughter is also serving there as doctor.Intriguing thing is that Nazima Talib is the first lady teacher killed by "Baluch nationalists",which is against the traditions of Baluchs.We all do rememember the stand of Nawab Akbar Bugti regarding molesting of Dr.Shazia by our khakis.This is the province which is breaking away from Pakistan.I am sad and worried and my mind has been baffled with many question,why Lashri Raisani[whose brother is C.M and he himself is headinf the chapter of PPP and senator too]has refused to receive civil award of Pakistan and very gentle and humble person like Abdullah Jamaldeeni[otherwise a prolific writer of Baluchi and Urdu] has refused to attend the ceremony to get his Kamal E Fun Award.
