The Balochistan Levies Force and police officials in Quetta division have been directed to assist the anti-polio campaigners in persuading parents to get their children vaccinated against the crippling disease, Commissioner Quetta division Kambar Dashti told a meeting on Monday.

Dashti and Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan Coordinator Dr Saifur Rehman jointly chaired a meeting to review the refusal cases issue.

According to official figures there are 4,443 chronic refusal cases in Quetta block, which includes Quetta city, Pishin and Killa Abdullah. These children were not administered anti polio-drops on refusal of their parents in recurrent vaccination drives.

Dashti told deputy commissioners of Quetta, Killa Abdullah and Pishin to take the lists of households that turn away polio vaccinators and see to it that their children get inoculated against the crippling disease.
