It might take more time than expected for Qaumi Watan Party to join the government bandwagon, said QWP General Secretary and acting speaker of the K-P Assembly Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli.
Speaking to The Express Tribune on Sunday, Tahirkheli said the party is in no hurry to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government.
“However, dialogues and deliberations are taking place with the central leadership rather than the provincial leadership of PTI,” she said.
According to Tahirkheli, QWP leaders were removed by the PTI government on charges of corruption in November 2013.
“Such actions will not be tolerated in future, especially when they are taken without consulting the party’s leadership,” she said. “The provincial government removed QWP from the coalition as it didn’t trust its leadership.”
However, she lauded PTI for advising her to become the acting speaker in the legislature.
Consensus
A QWP insider said party chief Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and PTI Chairman Imran Khan would meet before the former joins the government in the province. Speaking to The Express Tribune about the 12-point charter which QWP has presented to PTI, Sherpao said most provisions of the document have been recommended by the central leadership.
Coalition’s concerns
However, expressing discontent over PTI’s decision, a provincial leader of Jamaat-e-Islami told The Express Tribune PTI has forgotten their promises on the basis of which they were elected.
“JI has not been consulted over allowing QWP to join the province government,” he said.
