Munir, who was ahead of the pack from day one, fired seven birdies and three bogies on the final day to finish at four-under-par 68 and an aggregate of 21-under-par 267 to clinch the title and bag Rs620,004.
“The greens at the KGC and the weather really helped me. It feels great to get the title back after five years,” Munir told The Express Tribune. “This title is a representation of the hard work and effort put in by my caddie [Ghulam Hussain] and I during the course of the championship.”
Munir is followed by Shahid Javed Khan and Matloob Ahmed on second and fout, with aggregate scores of 16-under-par 272 and nine-under-par 279, respectively.
Defending champion Shabbir Iqbal, who managed to make an impressive comeback by climbing from 54th on the first day to fourth on the last, was just three strokes behind Javed and finished with a score of four-under-par to record an aggregate of 13-under-par 275.
“I didn’t play well on the first day and that cost me this championship. If on the first day I would have scored like I did during the next three, I would have succeeded in defending the championship,” Shabbir told The Express Tribune.
In the amateurs category, Ghazanfar Mehmood
won the title while Muhammad Waseem Rana came second and Taimur Khan finished third.
In the senior professional’s match, Imad Hussain secured the top spot, followed by Muhammad Iqbal in second Ghaffar Ahmed on third.
