Over a hundred students took to the streets on Saturday to protest delays in completing construction work at their school in Barshoor area of Swat.
Abdul Wali Khan, a tribal elder, told The Express Tribune students of Government High School for Boys Barshoor blocked roads for over two hours soon after the morning assembly.
“They shouted slogans against the contractor and the provincial government for not providing them teachers and giving them a proper place to study,” he added.
According to Abdul Wali, security forces and police officials repeatedly tried to persuade students to disperse. However, they refused to do so.
“The students were demanding an assurance that construction work would be expedited and not be left unfinished by the contractor,” he said. “They only dispersed once the security forces and police guaranteed that contractors would complete construction work within a month.”
