PM announces Rs200m for water scheme in flood-hit Mianwali

Expresses grief over loss of lives, announces Rs1.3 billion to prevent flooding caused by hill torrents

MIANWALI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday more dams were required to prevent floods, and announced Rs200 million for a water scheme in the Mianwali’s Isakhel area. 

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the area and my prayers are with your families," PM Nawaz said while addressing the flood victims as he arrived in the region.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project will pass through the affected area in Mianwali, which will generate employment opportunities and bring prosperity and development.

He also announced that Rs1.30 billion will be spent to prevent flooding caused by hill torrents.

During his day-long visit, PM Nawaz took an aerial view of the flood-hit area and also visited relief camps where he distributed food and other relief goods to the victims.

Earlier, the DCO Mianwali gave a detailed briefing to the premier on the destruction caused by floods, as well as the continuing relief activities in the area.

On August 4, PM Nawaz had announced Rs1 billion relief package for the rehabilitation of flood-affected areas of Sindh.
