The Tarnol police have arrested four alleged robbers masquerading as cops, a police spokesman said on Friday. The police arrested the alleged imposters after Jehanzeb Tariq lodged a complaint about the gang on August 1. Tariq said he and his friends were on GT Road near Sangjani when three persons in police uniforms travelling in an official vehicle signalled them to stop. In guise of a search, the fake cops snatched Rs8,500 from Tariq and his friends, besides taking away their CNICs. Tariq said they also threatened him of dire consequences if they report the matter. Following the compliant, SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani formed a team to investigate the case. The team started patrolling the area and spotted the car. The team intercepted the vehicle and arrested Waqar Yunus, Wazeer Abbass, Ali Raza and Irfan. The accused confessed to looting citizens masquerading as police officials.
