Police Highhandedness: Case sought against bullying cops
Petitioner Azeem said a few days ago, he got into an accident with Sub-Inspector Abdul Wahid’s car
LAHORE:
An additional district and sessions judge sought comments from the Factory Area SHO on Wednesday on a petition against 15 cops who had allegedly illegally detained the petitioner because he had rammed his motorcycle into a sub-inspector’s car. Petitioner Azeem said a few days ago, he got into an accident with Sub-Inspector Abdul Wahid’s car. He said cops from the Factory Area police station were there when it happened. “The cops dragged me to the Harbanspura police station. They told me to give them Rs150,000 if I wanted to go free.” Azeem said he refused to pay the bribe after which the cops beat him. After his family filed a habeas corpus petition, he was allowed to leave.
