PTI chief suspends Justice Wajiuddin over 'tirade' against party leaders

Imran Khan says Wajiuddin's statement has damaged the party more than the combined forces of opposition ever could

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan suspended on Tuesday Justice (retd) Wajiuddin’s basic party membership following his recent outburst against senior party leaders.

“In light of the August 4 notification, the chairman has been left with no choice but to suspend Justice Wajiuddin’s basic Party membership,” a statement issued by PTI chief’s spokesperson Shireen Mazari said.

The statement said Justice (retd) Wajiuddin had openly defied party discipline even after the issuance of a notification on August 4, 2015 warning that anyone discussing internal party matters publicly will be suspended from the party.

"Imran made it clear that no democratic party allowed its members to discuss internal party matters in the public domain, especially on the media, and a democratic culture within a party should not be mistaken for freewheeling anarchy," the statement read.

The statement added that the party chairman regretted Justice (retd) Wajiuddin’s maligning of senior party leaders on baseless allegations, which had damaged the party more than the combined forces of the opposition ever could.

Earlier on Monday, Imran rejected claims that there was a ‘mafia’ within the PTI, saying every party had groupings, but what mattered was merit.

Of late senior PTI leaders, including Hamid Khan and Justice (retd) Wajihuddin, have been criticising the policies of PTI, saying the ‘cronies’ of military dictators had joined the party.

The PTI chairman in April had asked Justice (retd) Wajihuddin to step down on the grounds that he was violating party discipline by holding meetings after dissolution of the tribunal formed to investigate the shortcomings in intra-party elections held in 2013.

Meanwhile, speaking to Express News, the former judge said he did not receive any notice regarding his suspension, and was only working to make PTI a democratic institution.

Because, he is an honest man, man of indisputable financial integrity, and inspires a huge population to achieve a positive change, make new Pakistan, justice for all without discrimination & real accountability. We should trust Imran Khan on his decisions to not allow or suspend insiders leak out party inside communication.

A sort of intimidation exsited at the polling stations in favour of PTI but no rigging . I guess PMLN didnt want to win that seat for some strange reaosns. Just answer me this. Why did IK not implement the recommendations of his own commission . They reported that money exchanged hands in internal elections , and during candiate selections for general elections and during the more recent cantt board elections. So people like me are wondering if IK speaches were just a rhetoric to fool people just like other poliuticians.

Azmat Ali | 9 years ago | Reply If I was Jahangir Tareen and I truly had PTI's success as my sole political driver, I would have resigned from the current post and found something else to do in PTI. I would never have allowed my self or my position to become a matter of distrust and disruption within the party. Having said that, Justice (r) Wajiuddin should have also taken all opportunities to air his grievances within the party meetings and if he was not being heard, should have resigned and then gone on to comment publicly about it. Imran must review again the credibility and standing of the people and advisors around him and make a renewed determination as to the efficacy and loyalty of those persons. If he is still satisfied, then he must declare the same and proceed with the party's agenda.

What Ik will say then about others is applicable to him now. IK says that indicpiline of such nature is not tolerated even in western democarcies. He is WRONG. How many times we have seen the party revolts from within and in pubilc. The most promiment was agaisnt Thatcher although she was still popular but his party threw here out. Alas I voted for him , never again .

This is discipline not dictatorship, as PTI's detractors who suddenly care for Sir. Wajiuddin will start crying about. . No organisation in the world survives without discipline, something I feel Sir. Wajiuddin should've kept in mind.
