Rangers asks MQM to hand over target killers

The paramilitary force, while providing a list of the suspects, demanded that the MQM hand over custody of these men

KARACHI: The paramilitary Rangers on Tuesday asked the MQM to hand over custody of its 187 workers, who are nominated in cases of the targeted killings of police officials who participated in the Karachi operation in 1990s.

According to a letter, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, the Rangers said all the police officials and personnel who had participated in the 90’s operation against MQM have been killed one by one.

The letter said 187 men, allegedly belonging to the militant wing of the MQM-A (the main MQM group), had been nominated in the FIRs of these murders. The paramilitary force, while providing a list of the suspects, demanded that the MQM hand over custody of these men to the Rangers so that investigations into the cases against them can move forward.

The letter was also sent to the Sindh Chief Minister’s secretariat, Secretary Home Department, Sindh Inspector General Police and AIG Karachi.

Hashmi | 9 years ago | Reply According to a news report titled ‘Unrest in Balochistan: India, Afghanistan involved in religious terrorism, by Mohammad Zafar, published in Express Tribune on August 3, Inspector General of Balochistan Police Muhammad Amlish claimed that 524 police officers have been killed in the province since the year 2006 Now that is a pretty high figure for a province with a population of around ten million people, and in a time span of less than ten years. However, there was no indication in the report that IG Balochistan has either handed over, or plans to pass on the list of their suspected killers to the terrorist outfits, asking them to hand over the killers to the police. And perhaps one reason for his stance could be that he believes it to be the task of the law enforcers to apprehend the accused, and get them sentenced by proving their guilt in the court. After all, that is what the law enforcers are employed and paid for. And of course the comment by ‘Truth’ that ‘he Rangers should also hand over their personnel involved in torture and extra-judicial killing from 1992 till date to Judiciary so that justice is served on both sides according to Islam’ does not seem to be entirely misplaced either. khalid | 9 years ago | Reply Despite restoration of peace in the city which was the biggest concern of Karachi our Urdu speaking brothers are now abusing rangers instead being thankful, proving the failure of democracy in an ethnically divided country. Such division only produces products like Altaf Hussain.

Islam has been exploited since 1900s first for creating Pakistan where Muslims would live in harmony and over the past several decades for freedom-fighting in Kashmir and Afghanistan and now for political gains...
