Three high ranking TTP officials killed in Afghanistan

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan's Hafeezullah and two of his aides confirmed killed in a drone strike on December 10.

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Hafizullah and two of his aides have been killed in Afghanistan, according to official sources.

An official speaking on conditions of anonymity told The Express Tribune that the TTP militants were killed by a drone strike on December 10 near the Pak-Afghan border in Afghanistan's Kunar province, 10 kilometres away from Pakistan's territory.

Hafeezullah was the head of the TTP in the Upper and Lower Dir areas of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province before the military operation began. He was believed to have gone into hiding in Afghanistan.

According to Express 24/7 correspondent Iftikhar Firdous, both of Hafeezullah's aides were high ranking officials in the TTP. The aides, Dr Wazir and Muftahudin alias Shabbar, had been apprehended in Pakistan before but were set free after a peace deal in Swat. Shabbar was known for carrying out public executions.

Hafeezullah was known for a number of suicide bombings in Dir, one of them being a suicide bomb in which three Americans among others were killed. He had then personally called local reporters to claim responsibility for the attack.

disgusted | 13 years ago | Reply @cautious Listen Indian, these terrorists belonged to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. They were killed by the US in Afghanistan. What were they doing there? They were hiding there in their safe havens, where they retreat to rest, train, and to rearm, before returning to Pak to carry out their terror.

Vael Nouschervan | 13 years ago | Reply It is believed that India is pursuing a Politico-military strategy called "Dynamic Strings" in Pakistan. The purpose of which is to politically destablize Pakistan and shift the focus of its armed forces inward culiminating, thereafter, in a politico-military strangulation which saps Pakistan's ability to regain its capacity to function as a state. The strategy seeks to create divisions based on sect, ethnic emotions and left-right associations and also aims at creating some irrtrievable economic strife in the country. This renewed strategy is an advanced form of what was put to practice during 1971 crisis and it did work well. Amazingly, the "Dynamic Strings" had been war-gamed at Indian war colleges and had been termed 'viable' before it was put to use in 2007. The BLA in Baluchistan and TTP are the two areas where the Dynamic Strings has been exceptionally successful. There were also reports in the newspapers about Punjabi Talibans and the links can well be connected to Dynamic Strings. We need to know and remember that this current strategy is founded on the strong and successful working principles of Mukti Bahini movement and therefore need to counter it before it becomes a success for one more time!
