Indigenous language: Balochi dictionary formally launched

Even before formal launching of the Balochi dictionary, almost all of its copies were sold out

The voluminous Balochi Dictionary was launched formally at the Balochi Academy in Quetta at a gathering of top intellectuals of the province on Sunday.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Makran Dr Abdul Razak Sabir, performed the launching ceremony.

Chief editor of the dictionary Mir Jan Mohammad Dashti, Dr Abdul Saboor Baloch, Prof Yusuf Mengal, Ulfat Nasim, Rehim Bakhsh Mehar, and Hamid Ali spoke on the occasion.


It took 15 years and efforts of dozens of prominent intellectuals, writers and poets to publish the dictionary. It was considered the biggest achievement of the Balochi Academy.

Even before formal launching of the Balochi dictionary, almost all of its copies were sold out forcing the publishers to plan its second edition at the earliest.
