The suspects, including Saeed alias Bharam, Ubaid alias K2, Nouman, Muzammil and Shahid, are alleged to have been part of three teams who followed Niazi from the jail to a mobile market in the Saddar area and opened fire at his convoy, killing him and five others, including his brother, guard and driver, instantly. The murder took place in 2006.

Ubaid, who was arrested in a Rangers raid at the MQM’s headquarters Nine Zero in March, reportedly led one of the teams planning the murder.
A recently submitted report in the court confirmed that the murder was plotted by MQM workers to “punish” the principled senior jail officer and deputy superintendent.

The deceased had served at the central jail of the metropolis for 20 years.
