PTI in the lead as local govt re-polls close in K-P

Both, the Awami National Party and the Pakistan Peoples Party failed to secure any seats per latest unofficial results

PESHAWAR: The ruling party in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, secured seven district council seats as re-polls for local government in Peshawar concluded.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PLM-N) secured three district seats while the Awami National Party and Pakistan People Party failed to secure even single seat as per initial results.

According to unofficial results in the provincial capital, PTI’s Amir Naveed won by securing 175 votes in Ghari Sherdad UC-45. PTI’s Rehman Afzal was victorious by securing 137 votes in UC-30. PTI’s Naveed Barki won from Urmar Payan. PTI’s Malik Afzal secured 137 votes to win UC-27. PTI’s Usman Bashir is said to have won in UC- 16, but the results were not confirmed till the filing of this report.

DRO Riaz Mehsud said results were awaited from far-flung areas, adding that re-polls had been held in at least 29 polling stations in Peshawar alone.

Meanwhile PTI’s Gulab Shah succeeds by securing 791 votes in Bannu ward-16.

ANP’s Bakhtiar Muhammad secured 1,563 votes in Swabi’s ward-38 and is said to be the winning candidate. Independent Ahmed Sultan from Mardan’s ward-31 won after securing 1,739 votes.

If PMLN wins seats in while they are in gov, it has to be massive rigging and wrongful use of state machinery. But if PTI wins while in power in the gov, it proves PTI is the best. What double standards!

It's not double standards, it's TRUTH. Why? Because we all know how politicized police and institutions are in Punjab and Sindh. The whole politics of PMLN and PPP are based on political inductions and interfering in institutions. On the other hand, even the opponents recognize that PTI made KP police de-politicized. Plus, army was involved in by-polls due to insistance of opposition and still results are in PTI favor. So, do good, get praised; do bad, get criticized. Don't draw wrong parallels.

bilal | 9 years ago | Reply @ Friend. Please get yourself a little more educated. See Punjab cantonment result as well. You will see in both , many independent win. Independents reduce voting share of parties in local bodies election. Independents impact at national level gets less and less. You see parties raising their %age of votes. The fact that PTI beat joint alliance of PPP/ JUI / ANP says a lot about them.

Ali | 9 years ago | Reply @Ali ... i bet no one, even the most die hard leaguey and jiala, can say with full confidence that punjab and sindh provides impartial administration when conducting polls. PTI, on other hand, has provided impartial administration during kp LB polls which can be seen from the fact that a sitting minister was arrested by police when opponents alleged him of interfering in the poll process.

Friend | 9 years ago | Reply Guys dont get carried away. This report is pathetically outdated. ET please update your reports so that readers are not misguided. The fact is that yes PTI has managed to win majority of the LG seats, but its overall mandate has reduced from 45% in 2013 general elections to 30%in this LG elections, and that too in the presence of widespread rigging and use of offical machinery. In the next 3 years this downward trend will keep pti out of power. This by-election, though, is a mere fraction of the main elections and cannot atone or justify that large scale rigging. JUI has won 12 seats in its strongholds, while anp has swept in Swabi, and gained more strength in Charsadda and Mardan stronholds. ANP's mandate has proved their assertion that 2013 elections were really held under Hakeemullah Mehsood as the election commissioner.

High Moral Position | 9 years ago | Reply I dont know what has happened to moral values, ethics and conscience of IK and PTI leadership who used to boast their integrity, high moral position and ethics. If they have any self respect and morality left in them, they should themselves leave the assembly instead of shamelessly waiting for the decision of useless assembly where they have already resigned. I dont know what they are gaining from sitting in a place which has no respect for them. They do not know that this will raise their moral and political stature which is currently badly damaged. Anyone sane person listening...

As for the Mullah in this equation, well he is fighting for his survival and relevancy. With the progress and continuation of Democracy, these religious contractors will all loose their relevancy in Politics, Diesel is just the beginning.
