Following Ashura clashes: Madina market to reopen on Aug 1

RAWALPINDI: One of the city’s oldest and most bustling markets, Madina Market, will reopen on Saturday, August 1, after being closed for 19 months. The market, situated in Raja Bazaar, was destroyed in a fire that resulted from sectarian clashes in front of the Taleemur Quran madrassa and mosque November 15, 2013 during Ashura. The Punjab government had vowed to compensate the affected traders and madrassa administration. Traders’ body leader Sheikh Muhammad Salim said 120 reconstructed shops will open on August 1.
