‘TV critical in lending impetus to film industry’

Sajid Hasan says success of Pakistani films over Eid encouraging for local actors

KARACHI: Sajid Hasan is among those singing praises of the new wave of filmmakers for their efforts towards resuscitating the Pakistani movie industry. But he also deems the television fraternity as having played a critical role in this development, according to Roznama Express.

“Actors and directors from the TV industry have played a major role in the revival of the local film industry,” he said. “The films that have been churned out over the last few years have helped pivot audiences towards cinemas,” he added.

Sajid feels that the success of Pakistani films over the Eid weekend has proven to be beneficial for local actors. “Now, we should start thinking about promoting our films the world over. Like India, we should try and reach out to the international market.”

The veteran actor, who recently starred in the crime-caper Jalaibee, has always been vocal in his support for the local film industry. In an earlier interview, he had commented on the importance of quality scripts and the need to adapt to the evolving technology to ensure that the industry is at par with the global standards.

“The reason why drama serials have been so successful on local TV is their unique storylines. Similarly, we need to start writing better scripts for our movies as the concept of formula films doesn’t exist anymore,” he stated. “Making use of new and improved technology is the need of the current era of filmmaking.”
