Save the artists: Govt urged to roll out copyright legislation

PESHAWAR:

The provincial government has been urged to enforce copyright legislation, and pass a culture policy to protect the rights of musicians and artists.

These demands were tabled at a meeting called by the Cultural Journalist Forum (CJF) on Monday. Presided over by CJF President Ihtisham Toru, the forum welcomed the new K-P Secretary for Culture and Tourism Azam Khan and expressed hope he would take steps for the promotion of arts and culture. Attendees were concerned over the delay in the implementation of a culture policy, which was drafted almost two years ago. They urged the government to set up a fund for artists and restore the lost glory of Nishtar Hall. They said the hall is the only bastion of arts and crafts left in the city. Lack of attention to it is depriving people of entertainment, and artists of their livelihood.
