According to a statement issued by K-Electric (KE), the company has urged the city government to complete the process of tree pruning and clear the streets of rain water immediately so that they can expedite fault rectification.
KE has put its teams on standby following the warning issued by the met department for rain with high winds. “Regional Control Centres established before the onset of the last spell are still functional and are vigilantly monitoring the situation,” said a statement issued by KE.
The KE teams faced delays in repairs due to flooded streets, which submerged the underground cables making it difficult to identify faults. Un-pruned trees damaged wires when tree branches or trees collapsed, taking out electricity cables with them.
Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui responded that the power utility must perform, rather than pointing out the mistakes of other departments. “What type of cable wires do they use, which cannot sustain a little water?” he questioned.
