US Embassy employee gunned down in Islamabad

Published: July 26, 2015

A Pakistani employee of the US Embassy in Islamabad was gunned down on Sunday, Associated Press reported.

According to the police, the deceased identified as Iqbal Baig worked for US Drug Enforcement Agency.

The motive for the attack is still unclear and the US Embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“US Embassy security officials visited the scene of crime,” police officer Khalid Awan, who confirmed Baig’s slaying, said.

Baig belonged to the Ismaili community. At least 45 people, including women and children, belonging to the Ismaili community were killed when around a half a dozen gunmen sprayed them with bullets in execution style inside a bus near Safoora Chowrangi in Karachi on May 13 this year.

Drug Enforcement Agency. That was also employer of David Headley, the Mumbai attack mastermind. Seems like maybe they were planning another attack now also.Recommend

Why would you write US embassy employee? To amaze our country. You could have stated a pakistani gunned down. Are you actually working against pakistan Recommend

Why give all this hoopla on his religious afflictions at this stage ??? It is rather convenient paint this as a sectarian killing if your investigatiive capabilities are weak Recommend

@technology news: he is still a pakistani before an employee. Like you said he was “probably” killed for that. Probably means assumption. Why assume. When a Sunni dies no one says, sunni boy killed. It is always stated a resident of lahore or islamabad or karachi. Why start the process of discrimination or embed that in our minds. This is how US plas and we are following footsteps. White guy- an American. Brown guy – a Muslim terrorist. Don’t do this. Recommend

He was probably killed since he was working against narcotics. The mafia is a very powerful thing my friends. And I long to see the day when the source of news regarding our embassy personnel is a local news source like ET rather than Associated Press or NYT.Recommend

I would strongly agree with you there is no need to identify a person with religion or sect which only creates unnecessary confusion and an immediate impression of a sectarian crime.Recommend

Classic anti American blather – long on blather and short on facts. Daood Sayed Gilani (aka David Headley) was the son of a Pakistani diplomat who was born in America which automatically gave him American citizenship. He changed his name to David Headley in 2005 based on advice of Sajid Mir of the Lashkar-a-Taibathe in order to allow him to enter India without raising alarms.
Gilani was a drug smuggler – who utilized the contacts he made while attending Pakistani Military Academy. His first arrest was in Lahore but the charges were mysteriously dropped – he was later arrested in Frankfurt, Germany where he was turned over the the America Drug Enforcement officials who cut him a deal for a lighter sentence in exchange for him becoming an “informant”. Informants aren’t employees – their criminals who turn over evidence against other criminals in exchange for lighter sentences.
When the American’s arrested Gilani for his involvement in the Mumbai massacre he pleaded guilty in exchange for lighter sentence (35 years) and provided evidence against his co-conspirators which also included the ISI. As part of the “deal” he was required to fully cooperate with Indian authorities.

Wow, nowhere is there any evidence that Pakistani-American Daood Sayed Gilani (who changed his name to David Headley for his LeT friends!) was anything other than a foot soldier for LeT!!!Recommend

Jinnah was a Khoja Shia. I am sure the Embassy employee must be Shia or Ismaili or Ahmedia. So the reason is clear. A twisted Shia did it.Recommend
