Sony Pictures Animation has bought the rights to make a movie featuring emoji icons, such as smiley, winky as well as the unhappy characters used in texts and on social media.

After the success of The Lego Movie, commentators are of the opinion that any subject matter can be used to get a blockbuster hit.

In the late 1990s, emojis were first developed in Japan as smiley-faced emoticons. They have since developed from graphically representing faces to depicting a whole lot of different things, including pets, objects and poo.

A few months ago, "diverse" emojis, which feature new skin tones, hand gestures and same-sex partners, were also released.

Rebecca Evie Lynch, a designer, has even come up with a variety of emojis, called introjis, which would help introverts to converse and share their feelings easily. The images include actions such as reading, gaming, as well as emotions depicting anxiety or feeling out of sync with other people.

Following the ‘campaign’, a tech company, Swyft Media, has now come up with an assortment of ginger emojis on the call of those who love red hair.
