Squads announced for snooker championships

Hamza, Asif, Sajjad among cueists selected to represent Pakistan.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) on Thursday announced the squad for the upcoming Jubilee Insurance World 6-Red and Team Snooker Championship.

As many as 12 players have been named by Pakistan to participate in the 6-Red event — Hamza Akbar, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Sajjad, Shahram Changezi, Babar Masih, Khurram Agha, Mohammad Majid Ali, Mohammad Asif Toba, Hunain Amir, Sohail Shehzad, Shahid Aftab and Asjad Iqbal — while it was also confirmed that a total of 18 countries would be participating in the championships.

The championships includes the men’s, women’s and master’s categories and will commence from August 6.

Three teams — Muhammad Yousuf/Naveen Perwani, Sarwer Siddiqui/Ahmed Bawany and Muhammad Mukhtar/Saqib Jamal — have been announced for the master’s category.

The abovementioned players will also report from Monday at the Movenpick hotel in Karachi for a 10-day training camp for the World Championships.

Former IBSF World Team champions Asif and Sajjad are one of the seven teams named for the World Team Championships, with others being Hamza/Shehram, Aftab/Iqbal, Imran Shehzad/Sohail Shehzad, Majid/Hunain, Sultan Muhammad/Aakash Rafique and Babar Masih/Asif Toba.
