FAISALABAD:

Scores of Gharibabad residents came together at Samundri Road on Tuesday to stage a protest demonstration against police inaction over the killing of a seven-year-old boy.

The protestors gathered at the thoroughfare and blocked the road for all kinds of vehicular traffic. Abdur Rehman, one of the demonstrators, said Gharibabad resident Usman had gone to the Rakh Branch Canal in Samundri with his friends on Eid. He said Sarfaraz and Shahid had thrown the boy in the canal. Rehman said Usman had consequently drowned. He said a Rescue-1122 team had managed to recover the body of the deceased from a canal near a village after striving for two days.

Rehman said the people had approached Factory Area Police to get a case registered on this regard in vain. He said no case had been registered and none of the suspects had been nabbed. A police team led by the Iqbal Town ASP arrived at the spot and placated the demonstrators.

Police assured them that action would be taken against those suspected of killing the child. The protesters called off the protest after being assured that their grievances would be addressed.
