Minesweeping: Ehtesab Commission raids former minerals secretary’s residence

Waheeduddin was not present at his house, officials seize documents.

PESHAWAR: The Ehtesab Commission (EC) expanded its search in the manhunt for former mines and mineral development department secretary and raided his house on Tuesday.

Mian Waheeduddin is wanted by the commission for alleged involvement in a corruption case. He has been on the run for several days now and the commission has conducted a series of raids to arrest him.

Insiders familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune the former secretary was not present at his home when EC officials barged in. A thorough search was conducted and the officials seized important documents from his residence.

EC DG General (retd) Hamid Khan issued Waheeduddin’s arrest warrants on July 17, asking IGP Nasir Durrani to detain him for his involvement in corruption.

“Mian Waheeduddin has committed the offence of corruption as defined under Section 23 of K-P Ehtesab Commission Act 2014,” reads a copy of the warrant which is available with The Express Tribune. “Therefore, we direct his arrest under Section 38 and Section 36(5), the arrest of the legislation.”

The warrant added Waheeduddin can be produced before the court for “the authorisation of detention for a period that is deemed necessary to finalise investigation”.

On Monday, the K-P government approached the Centre for a copy of the letter said to have been written by Waheeduddin which accused Chief Minister Pervez Khattak of nepotism.
