KARACHI: Karachi AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo and 10 provincial administrators were removed from their posts on Friday in what seemed to be a massive Sindh government reshuffle.

Thebo will be replaced by Mushtaq Meher while the former will now serve as the chairman of the anti-corruption department. Secretary Societies Shazar Shamoon and Saqib Soomro have also been removed from their respective posts. Further, Sindh Building Control Authority’s Maznoor Kaka has been removed from his designation as well. The deputy commissioners of Sanghar, Dadu, Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas and Shikarpur have also been removed from their posts.

Dismissing rumours that Thebo has been removed from the post of AIG over corruption allegations, Karachi police spokesperson Qamar Zaib Satti said, "Ghulam Qadir Thebo has been posted as chairman anti-corruption department owing to his commendable performance in Karachi police."

"This impression is wrong that he has been removed from the post of AIG Karachi owing to corruption allegations. He has been posted to the next senior position," the spokesperson added.

The steps have been taken in light of the decisions made during a recently-held apex committee meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah.

Thebo assumed the responsibility of AIG Karachi in January 2014 and was assigned the basic task of maintaining law and order in the metropolis.

Further, Sindh’s apex committee on Sunday decided to mount a crackdown on the local collaborators of international spy agencies like India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and those involved in acts of terror across the province.

The committee has formed a task force – headed by the home secretary and including Sindh Rangers, police and intelligence agencies officials – to coordinate with it and provide it with technical support.
