Accountability check: Non-bailable warrants issued for police officer

Ismail Lashari also facing other charges of extra-judicial killings and kidnappings in various courts

KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court issued on Wednesday non-bailable warrants for the arrest of a police officer investigating an explosives case, over his failure to bring any witness during the trial. Sachal police station inspector Ismail Lashari neither appeared and nor did he present any witness before the court, despite being summoned. This is the third time in the last three months that his arrest warrants have been issued. A court staffer said that an explosives case is lingering on evidence stage due to his negligence. The case contains four witnesses, all of them policemen, as the prosecution claims that the suspect, Abdul Sattar, was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip off in 2014. The suspect allegedly possessed explosives. Lashari is also facing other charges of extra-judicial killings and kidnappings in various courts. Earlier his bail plea was rejected by the Malir district top court in the murder case of a teenager.
