Capital on Eid: CDA to ensure cleanliness

Cancels holidays of 2,500 sanitary workers

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has cancelled holidays of nearly 2,500 of its sanitary workers in a bid to ensure cleanliness during Eidul Fitr.

A meeting held at CDA Headquarters was told that all measures were finalised to ensure cleanliness and security at public places during Eid.

The meeting was apprised that special teams comprising sanitary workers and supervisors have been constituted which will keep the city clean during the holidays.

Moreover, a complaint centre of the sanitation directorate has also been made operational. The CDA spokesperson said as a large number of people from the twin cities visit the zoo during the holidays, an additional number of security staff had been deployed there too.

He informed that it had been decided that the health services directorate would carry out anti-mosquito spray at busy recreational spots, business centres and bus stands so that momentum of the anti-dengue campaign could be maintained.

The spokesperson further informed that special teams had been constituted to remove encroachments from various markets in the capital, along with formation of teams to ensure smooth supply of water during the holidays.

A fleet of water tankers would remain alert to cope with any water shortages in the city, the spokesperson said. He further informed that a flood relief cell established by the authority to cope with any emergency situation would remain operational round-the-clock.  The spokesperson added that staff of capital hospital would also remain on duty.

Security measures for Pindi

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police have finalised their security plan during Eid.

Holidays of police personnel have been cancelled to ensure security in the city, while additional force will be deployed at sensitive areas, along busy roads, markets, shopping centres, graveyards, mosques, eidgahs, imambargahs and picnic points.

“The plan will include participation of 3,500 police personnel and commandoes as well as deployment at security checkpoints at entrance and exit routes of the city,” a police spokesperson said on Wednesday. He said that the police’s prime responsibility was to protect the lives and property of the public.

“All out efforts would  be made to avoid any untoward incident on the eve of Eid,” said the police spokesperson.
