Three militants sentenced to life imprisonment

MINGORA:

An anti-terrorism court in Swat on Tuesday sentenced three men to 58 years in prison for their involvement in militant activities during Taliban rule in the valley.

Swat Police Spokesperson Muhammad Rehman told The Express Tribune the sentence was handed down after several proceedings.

“The convicts have been identified as Waheedullah, Hassan Khan and Muhammad Karim,” he said. “The men were arrested in a raid carried out during 2014 by law-enforcement agencies. Two of the three suspects belonged to Afghanistan.”

The spokesperson explained the men were wanted in multiple cases of bombing government installations.

Rehman said the sentences were handed down by judge Muhammad Amin Kundi.

Speaking to journalists, Malakand DIG Muhammad Azad Khan lauded the Swat police for successfully arresting these terrorists and taking them to task. He said peace was restored to the valley through tremendous sacrifices by the police, public and security forces. “We will not allow any foreigner or local to carry out terrorist activities in our region,” he said.
