FIRs registered against MQM chief

In the wake of  Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain’s controversial statements against the Pakistan Army, as well as the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers, cases have been registered at different police stations across the city.

The cases have been registered under the Pakistan Penal Code’s Section 153-A, which deals with promoting enmity between different groups, on the complaint of Tehreek-e-Ahle Sunnat Jacobabad president Abdul Khaliq Soomro.

According to the FIR, the MQM chief had made derogatory remarks against the country’s integrity and security agencies during his July 12 address to party workers, with the intention to cause unrest in Sindh, especially in the provincial capital of Karachi.

An FIR was also registered by Khadim Sianch at the Saddar police station in Jacobabad under the same section.

In Khairpur district, two FIRS have been registered: one at the Thari Mir Wah police station and another at the Faiz Ganj police station.
