Disaster management: ‘No chance of heavy rain’

LAHORE: Chief Relief Commissioner Nadeem Ashraf said on Sunday that the flow of water in rivers, canals and channels across the province was normal. He was speaking at the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Ashraf said there was no possibility of heavy rain in the forthcoming days. He said there was no threat of rain and floods in south Punjab. Ashraf said the flow of water in rivers, canals and channels was being regularly monitored. He said data on this account was being submitted at six-hour intervals. Ashraf said a state-of-the-art warehouse stocked with basic necessities and eatables had been established in the city. He said inventories in warehouses across all districts had been updated. Ashraf said vaccines for animals were also being stored at these locations. He said Rs500,000 compensation was being paid to the relatives of three people killed in rain-related accidents in Narowal following a directive by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.  Provincial Minister Shuja Khanzada and Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal were also present on the occasion.
