QUETTA: Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan on Saturday claimed that it had arrested another suspected militant believed to be involved in the Ziarat Residency attack.

According to a spokesperson for FC Balochistan, they received a tip off about the presence of a suspected militant in Loralai district, close to Ziarat. The officials subsequently conducted a raid and arrested the suspected militant from a coalfield.

Officials said that the militant had been identified as Baz Muhammad alias Bazo. “The suspect has been hiding there for the past couple of years.”

The Ziarat Residency was blown up by militants on June 15, in 2013. The attack had been claimed by the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

Meanwhile, FC arrested a suspected militant in Mangochar Area of Kalat District. They recovered a weapon from his possession. Further investigations were underway.

Tribal elder gunned down in Kalat

A tribal elder was gunned down while another sustained injuries when unknown armed men opened fire on them in kalat district on Saturday.

According to the Kalat Police, unknown armed men riding on a motorcycle shot at a tribal elder in Mugalzai area of Kalat. The elder, Takri Ghulam Shahwani, died while his friend, Abdul Haee, received bullet wounds.

“The tribal elder was sitting with his friend outside the hotel when unknown persons targeted them,” police said.

Officials believe that the attack was probably due to an old enmity.

A case has been registered against unknown persons for the attack and an investigation has been launched.
