The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has named three roads after two writers and a folk singer to honour their services.
Service road (south) of Sector G-9 has been named after folk singer Muhammad Tufail Niazi, service road (east) of Sector G-7 after writer Muhammad Mansha Yad and service road (west) of Sector G-9 after poet and writer Shanul Haq Haqqi.
In 2013, the CDA board approved renaming of these roads and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has formally accorded approval to the summary in this regard.
A notification has formally been issued by the Cabinet Division, said the CDA spokesperson. He added that the civic agency’s roads department will soon install signboards on the newly-named roads.
Niazi, a famous Punjabi folk singer, was conferred the Presidential Pride of Performance Award in 1981, Yad, a prominent writer and playwright, was awarded the Pride of Performance Award in 2004, while, the late Haqqi, who was a notable Urdu poet, writer, journalist and broadcaster, was also the recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Tamgha-e-Quaid-i-Azam.
