Drug control: DG Khan police seize 40 kilogrammes hashish

The narcotics would have fetched Rs10 million in the market: police

Dera Ghazi Khan police on Thursday seized narcotics worth Rs10 million in the market, police said. The drugs were being smuggled from Balochistan.

Addressing a press conference, DPO Ghulam Mubashir said 40 kilos of hashish had been seized and two people were arrested. He said Dera Ghazi Khan police had launched a search operation in the district last week to nab proclaimed offenders and wanted men.

He said police had been informed that a truck bringing narcotics from Balochistan to the Punjab would pass through Dera Ghazi Khan. He said the Saddar SHO and CIA police had set up a picket at Mustafa Chowk in Saddar area. He said they had stopped a truck coming from Loralai and had seized hashish hidden in a large box.

He said police had arrested the truck driver Gul Data Tareen, a resident of Sanjawi, and his companion Saadullah Mochi, a resident of Shadan Lund.

The DPO said the help of intelligence agencies and Pakistan Army had been sought to intensify efforts against crime in the district. He said dozens of proclaimed offenders had been arrested and detained.

Crackdown

DG Khan Commissioner Saqib Aziz on Thursday said sale of spurious medicine would not be tolerated. He said a crackdown had been launched against medical stores selling substandard medicines. He said cases against medical store owners should be set to drug courts as soon as possible. He was talking to newsmen after a meeting of the divisional drug control task force. He said sale of spurious medicines should be curtailed and discouraged.

He said police should assist the Health Department in checking medical stores. The commissioner said medical stores with expired licences should be shut down immediately.

Commenting on the performance of drug controller in Dera Ghazi Khan over the last month, the commissioner said 410 medical stores and shops had been checked. Je said FIRs had been registered against seven people for selling substandard medicines. He said during this time, 29 people had been sentenced to prison terms and fined over Rs500,000.  The commissioner said drug controllers in Rajanpur had arrested the owner of a medical store for selling unregistered medicine. He said 150 medical stores had been checked in Rajanpur and two people had been arrested for selling spurious medicines.
