RAWALPINDI:

With the recovery of one more body, the death toll in rain-related incidents in Rawalpindi has reached seven, rescue officials said on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Deeba Shahnaz said that seven bodies have been recovered by Rescue 1122 since Tuesday, whereas 16 were rescued from their houses during the flooding.

The body of 24-year-old Atif Hanif was recovered by Rescue 1122 from a seasonal stream in the Racecourse area. Atif went missing from the Lane 4 area of Peshawar Road on Tuesday and a missing person report was registered with the emergency unit. Rescue 1122 shifted the body to District Headquarters Hospital, where the deceased’s father, Muhammad Hanif, identified the body. The body was handed over to Hanif after medico-legal formalities.

Shahnaz said rescue teams have been deputed at Kalma Chowk, Bahria Town Station and Soan Bridge. She said that the teams would continue to look for more missing persons until midnight.
